How do I create a fillable PDF form in Adobe?
I have Adobe Acrobat Professional 6.0. I am trying to create two PDFs (single pages) that can be filled in on a computer.
I have created PDFs before, but I don’t know how to put fields in that can be edited by another user. For example, I want the “Name” field to be filled in every time.
Step-by-step directions that work get the first ten points!!
I create my forms based on existing forms created in other apps. For instance, a tax form that does not exist yet on the computer (stupid irs) — but needs to have input. I’ll scan in the document, then use the Form Tool. Once you click on the icon, you can then create a box anywhere on the page. Fill in any properties you would like — (i.e. if it’s a number field, maybe select a number format, etc.). You can also choose alignment.
You also have the option to name the field. Any fields that have the same name, will always have the same data stored. If you create a field called “Name” — and copy and paste it at the top of each page, the user only needs to enter their name in 1x, and it will follow through for the rest of the doc.
Shortcuts: Create a field, format it (font, alignment, color) — copy and paste it over and over, but re-name each new box — and then just move them into position.
Another option for creating your form from scratch, is to create the text in MS Word, PDF the document, then begin filling in your Form Fields in Adobe.
Last but not least, if someone is filling in information into your newly created form, they cannot save information in that form if they are using the free Acrobat Reader — they can only print it with the information they entered, but all will be lost after they close the pdf. Saving form data is only granted to users of the full, paid for, version.
