MS CRM is very close to document workflow automation, including Microsoft Office documents: Word, Excel, etc. The document workflow was perfectly automated ago about 10 years in Lotus Notes Domino. In this small article we describe the solution based on MS CRM integration with MS SharePoint.

Microsoft CRM is new player on the market for CRM applications and is winning market share. Having different paradigm in its design (it stakes on Microsoft OS technologies and completely disregards alternative platform, such as UNIX, Linux, Oracle, etc. based). Microsoft CRM market is very diverse: from small (5 users) Large (several hundred MS CRM User licenses) and serves various sectors: Transport, Logistics, Lawyers, Pension Funds, High-Tech, and many others. Deployment of technologies such as Windows Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange 2003/2000, SQL Server, Crystal Reports Enterprise, Biztalk, Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Great Plains and Navision in close future – makes the system a well-loved for Microsoft CRM-oriented services.

Come right to the subject.

Major problem with storing documents in MS CRM as attachments to the activity is unable work on these attached files in cooperation with other colleagues who do not use the CRM. When people use multiple service requests Customer even necessary. Currently, you can use other way when you store Office documents in the files of your system files and when document editing, you save it and reattach to CRM. This is inconvenient, because first it requires all your editing users to have CRM licenses, which delays the implementation of CRM.

We seem increasing popularity of systems storing documents such as Microsoft SharePoint, Oracle Files, etc. These systems, implemented gives you time savings, related to documents revisions and versioning, approval cycles and workflows, web access through web portals, systems, etc..

The aim of our product is the integration of Microsoft MS CRM with SharePoint for document storage. Let's take a look at the high level technical realization details:

 • Main changes MS CRM side is standard system behavior change when you open the attachment activity. Standard unmodified CRM suggests you store documents in the file system. Modified version sores Documents in SharePoint Document Library (the required library is subject to the installation MS CRM system administrator) or keep it in MS CRM is (for documents of minor importance). From the time of registration document the SharePoint document library, it is not stored in MS CRM, CRM will now store only the link / reference to the document. Also you are given the ability to open and edit the document at the location of the opening, which speeds up MS CRM user significantly performance.

 • Table, storing the links to the documents found in the separate database and does not deal with MS CRM tables (you know that you are forbidden to make structural changes in MS CRM db)

 • save a document in MS SharePoint process occurs in MS CRM and with its assistance – SharePoint bridge, which does addition and update the existing document into destination Document Library with Microsoft SharePoint Web Services calls

 • In addition to the library of documents, MS CRM SharePoint bridge registers the document in the special table for data mining in the future or registration notification mechanism

 • Then, the Interested users can work with documents using only MS Office 2003 or other programs / tools for editing, assuming that these tools have access to MS SharePoint

 • Feedback is provided by MS SharePoint Handler component of the event. This handler is special, inspecting the change of document status, transferred from MS CRM to document storage (SharePoint), and Activity Report owner on the changes notification homepage (User home page in MS CRM). The user can in turn reviewed the history editing documents – which, when and where is the change

 • Opening Activity, where the document is "attached" and is placed into MS SharePoint Document Library, and pressing the button opening, Ms CRM user gets live version of data

 • This approach allows you seamless work with MS CRM document in the information space across your enterprise

 • Improvements Additional product might be document library management directly from MS CRM (web interface – which means Remote) Interface Board for review of MS Sharepoint documents, the ability to create reports on the state of storing documents, rights / management access (author, reader, Contributor etc) from MS CRM, portal pages integration into MS CRM to name a few.

Singular Forms (Sometimes Repeated)

$17.58

A long time has passed since micro:mega, the project that first nudged Sylvain Chauveau into the limelight, and it could be argued that all the projects since, all the ground covered, was leading up to this solo album — that Singular Forms (Sometimes Repeated) was the ineluctable next step. Most probably. And thankfully, for this is one marvelously understated record, 33 minutes of slow, quiet, broken-down songs consisting of simple piano parts, bare-boned electronics, and Chauveau’s crooning-intellectual voice, bearing a striking resemblance with David Sylvian’s. This album probably couldn’t have happened without two earlier stepping stones. The first one was Down to the Bone (2005), Chauveau’s tribute to Depeche Mode. That album showed us (and might have shown him, too) how his minimal arrangement stylings could be applied to the song format, and unveiled how seductive a voice the man truly has. Clearly, that project started Chauveau on a different path of experimentation. Four years later came Touching Down Lightly, a highly experimental, highly minimal album consisting of a single 45-minute work of extremely bare-boned piano, where silence weighs more than notes. In between, there was also the electronic EP S. Singular Forms (Sometimes Repeated) seems to synthesize all of that: we get the songs (and they owe a lot, melodically, to Depeche Mode, especially “Show the Clear and Lonely Way” and “A Cloud of Dust”), the nakedness (the piano occasionally drops entirely out of “The Unbroken Line,” leaving Chauveau singing a cappella, though as if there still was an accompaniment), and the electronics. The latter aspect is the most troubling; the electronics are not providing textural backgrounds — they suddenly appear and take center stage, stealing away the piano, starting a rumble, squeaking. They shake up the foundations of the music, introducing discomfort and disarray. However, in that, they are cleverly and sparsely used, and the effect is striking — ultimately, they add without sidetracking. The seven songs on this short album are deconstructed, stripped of their repetitions, brought down to the essentials of what makes a pop song: a melody, a lyric, a chord structure that doesn’t have to be highly emphasized to be understood. The music is not as easy as it sounds, but it is thoroughly entrancing. Chauveau is a hugely talented singer/songwiter; we now have irrefutable proof. Highly recommended. ~ François Couture, Rovi
