Married abroad, residence in the United States, now facing a divorce …?

My wife and through: We began dating in '96 and later married in Taipei in 2002. I am a citizen of the United States and is now National Taiwan with a 10 "year permanent visa. We lived in the States all the time (she was on a study visa before our marriage) and done everything a married couple (filled out forms, paid taxes, etc..) According to the office I checked with gov't back in the day, our marriage license from Taiwan has been recognized as valid and we were not asked to go to court in the United States and a new application or something else. So now that we are divorcing we are required to file documents with the United States? In Taiwan? Both? I want to understand protocol here. Are we able to simply follow the laws of Taiwan divorce, or are we required to do something here in the U.S. courts? Any information would be appreciated.

Well, I did the same, so Here It Goes, ask your County Common Pleas Court domestic relations division and obtain Divorce and the thingy when you get the document to send to Taiwan to let the Taiwan govt register and register and then you're free as a bird … Regards —

RAL 8379 with the form?

So I did it online tax refund calculator and I thought our refund (My husband and I a joint statement) would be back around 6200, give or take about $ 100. The problem is that we will have to file a Form 8379 because of a mortgage which I owe to the USDA Rural Development. Only my name is on the mortgage so I know my husband is not obliged to pay on it, so they can not take money from his party's reimbursement. All revenues this year is to him. We have two children, ages 2 and 11 months. So I was wondering is there any tax places we could go to that will give us one. IRAL said not to get a RAL because of high interest rates. I really do not have much of an option, because we have no money right now and he comes home for R & R (it is in the army in Iraq) on the 22nd of this month and I really do not want to be stuck at home for 18 days.

You can not get a RAL because of military status of your husband. The Loans Act prohibits military active duty military, their spouses and dependents, from receiving the loans.
